* Note that while mobile and desktop GPUs may have identical product names, performance is significantly lower when using mobile GPUs. AMD graphics cards are currently not supported.

** Note the requirements regarding connectivity and ports. We cannot guarantee full functionality when using adapters. Only use cables to connect the headset.

 

Compatible computers

Varjo headsets are compatible with a broad range of Windows 10 computers. See examples of tested computers and motherboards.

 

 

Software requirements

 

XR-3 and VR-3

The following software is required to use XR-3 and VR-3:

Positional tracking technologies

 

SteamVR™ Tracking

SteamVR™ Tracking is available for all Varjo headsets.

When using SteamVR™ Tracking, SteamVR™ base stations are used to track your headset and controllers. You can use either SteamVR™ 2.0 or 1.0 base stations for tracking.

Your base stations and accessories must be compatible with each other as described below.

Up to four base stations can be connected simultaneously.

Four base stations 2.0 are recommended if you plan to move around the room while using the headset.

Varjo headsets support OpenVR and OpenXR 1.0. SteamVR applications are compatible with Varjo headsets.

 

Varjo inside-out tracking (Beta)

Varjo inside-out tracking (Beta) is available for XR-3.

With Varjo inside-out tracking (Beta), the front-facing cameras on your headset scan the room to keep track of your position. No additional accessories are required.

Note that SteamVR™ controllers and trackers are not compatible with Varjo inside-out tracking (Beta).

 

Third-party tracking methods

Varjo provides an API for providers of third-party tracking technologies to integrate their tracking solution with Varjo headsets. Read more about using third-party tracking methods.

The following accessories are not provided with Varjo headsets and can be purchased separately:

Four base stations are recommended when using VR apps that allow you to move around in the room.

You can use either SteamVR™ 2.0 or 1.0 base stations provided that the base stations are compatible with each other. Read more about SteamVR™ base station compatibility.

You can purchase base stations in Varjo Store.

SteamVR™-compatible controllers (optional) Varjo headsets can be used without controllers. Note that your VR apps may have specific interactions that require a controller.

You can use either SteamVR™ 2.0 or 1.0 controllers provided that the base stations and controllers are compatible with each other.

Headphones (optional) Headphones with a 3.5mm audio jack are compatible with Varjo headsets.
Face cushions Varjo headsets come with an attached face cushion that can be easily changed.
