Viewing

Can I view my capture on my phone or tablet?

Teleport captures currently cannot be viewed on your iPhone.

Can Teleport captures only be viewed in VR?

Teleport captures can be viewed on desktop and laptop PC monitors, in addition to supported VR headsets. Desktop allows viewing a video (HD render flying through the capture), Interactive (3D exploring), as well as 2D viewing in your web browser.

VR provides a full immersive experience of your capture. The Teleport app will start in desktop mode if no headset is detected.

Can I import my capture into my 3D software?

We do not currently support the export of the capture.

Do captures I view remain stored on my PC?

Yes. Downloaded captures are stored for faster repeat access as these can be quite large files. Uninstalling the Teleport app removes any downloaded captures.

Capturing

How can I make a good quality capture?
  1. Move through the scene: Walk around your scene, try to keep as much as possible visible in each shot. Get as many angles as you can. Avoid panning. We recommend walking long loops where you slowly change the camera angle in relation to the center of the scene.
  2. Get the right level of detail: More detailed scenes will require more photos to be taken. As a rule of thumb, a large room (5m x 5m) would take a few minutes to capture, and need about 500 photos. You can capture larger spaces, up to a limit of 2000 photos.
  3. Increase detail: After getting the overview shots, get closeups of the details you are interested in. The more angles you can get, the better. Move slow to avoid motion blur. You may need to get very close for small detail, such as text. Make sure to capture the overview shots first.
  4. Best images: We recommend diffuse lighting. Avoid mixing very bright and dark areas in the same image. Transitioning between a dark area to a bright area is fine (autoexposure will compensate).
  5. Good locations: For best results, pick locations where you can walk around the edges facing inward. You need to capture all surfaces and empty space. (Outside-in ensures you capture empty space)
  6. Good VR scenes: For immersive viewing, you want content in every direction the user may move. You can also capture the sky.

Can I pause during capturing to help avoid moving objects?

Pausing a capture is unavailable currently.

Can I add to an existing capture?

Adding to an existing capture is unavailable currently.

My iPhone battery is used quickly when I take a capture – what can I do?

Capturing can be process-heavy activity and demanding on the iPhone’s battery. Often a battery pack is useful to have on hand, particularly if you are making multiple captures.

How best to capture for High Dynamic Range?

High dynamic range is always on and included as part of each capture. No additional setup needed.

Are there any limits as to how large a capture can I make?

There is currently no known area size limit. We have tested captures from 5m2 (53.8ft2) to 1000m2 (10763.9ft2).

How much storage space will Teleport take on my phone for a capture?

Teleport will temporarily require up to 4GB space during capturing but it will free this up after the upload has been completed. We advise checking and freeing up memory on your device if you intend on making numerous large captures.

Can I edit my capture?

We do not currently support editing or modifying captures.

Do my captures remain stored on my iPhone?

No. Once the upload of your capture has been completed the capture data is removed from your device.

Can I capture scenes in darkness?

No. A light source is needed in the scene to capture the detail needed to reconstruct a scene.

Can I capture individual objects?

No. Teleport is designed to capture entire environments, not individual objects.

Can I use a selfie stick or gimble during capturing?

These may work but are not officially supported. We do not recommend using such peripherals that can put the camera viewer beyond your line of sight as its important you are aware of what is in the frame during capturing to help ensure quality of reconstruction.

Can Teleport be used with other devices, such as handheld 360 cameras, drones, specialized 3D reconstruction devices, or regular DSLRs?

Currently Teleport works on the iPhone 12+ Pro / Pro Max models only.
