How to Install a Varjo-Ready PCIe Card For Use with XR-4 Series Headsets
Does your PC support the Varjo XR-3 but simply lacks the specified USB-C port to run the XR-4 Series? The Varjo XR-4 headsets require a laptop or a desktop with a USB-C port to function, specifically a 10 Gbps USB-C 3.1 Gen 2 port or a USB-C 3.2 Gen 2 port.
Some PCs meet the other system requirements required to run the XR-4 series, but simply lack the specified USB-C port. In these circumstances, the simple addition of a compatible PCIe expansion card can solve this issue.
If you are looking to purchase a card for the purpose of running an XR-4 headset, we highly recommend that you purchase a Varjo Ready PCIe card via the Varjo sales team as this will ensure you have the correct model with the correct firm ware for the purpose.
Once you have a card ready to install, the simple steps to do so are listed below for a desktop PC (a quick process that should take a matter of minutes).
Power down the PC and unplug it
Power down your PC, allow it to cool and unplug it from the wall.
Remove side panel
Removing the side panel of the your PC case will give you easy access to the internals.
Locate an empty PCIe port
Find an unused slot to install your PCIe card, as shown in the picture. If you have no empty slots, take a moment to ponder your priorities in life, then remove that old sound card you haven’t used in a decade to make space.
Unscrew the metal plate next to the port
Generally desktop cases will have little plates covering the unused PCIe ports. Remove the plate and put it in that drawer where you put everything else you ‘might need’ one day.
Install PCIe card
Installing the card simply consists of clicking it into place, the pins on the card should give you a clear, self-explanatory of how it fits in.
Screw the card in
Lefty loosey, righty tighty. Be sure to screw the card in place once it has been installed.
Install the side panel
Replacing the side panel makes your PC pretty again, and stops you staring at your very expensive graphics card every ten minutes. Highly recommend to put the panel back when you are done.
Boot the PC
After all these steps, plug your PC back in and it should recognize the PCIe card and function automatically after booting. Be sure to pat yourself on the back once done, you are an IT technician now, and should be proud.
