Varjo Base Pro: Aligning our product lifecycle with our customers’ needs
As our technology has become more embedded in real-world workflows and integrated systems, we’ve heard from our customers that they want to see continued feature innovation, but longer hardware product lifecycles.
We’ve adjusted our product thinking to reflect this. We will aim to make major, generational, changes in our hardware capabilities around every 4 years. Between generations we will focus on adding new software capabilities and features that will enhance the performance, utility, and deployability, of our headsets.
To support this shift, we’re introducing in April a new software licence, Varjo Base Pro
Varjo Base 4.10
Beginning in our next release, Varjo Base version 4.10 (targeted for release in April) will introduce significant changes to our industry leading software.
The desktop application will introduce a refreshed look and feel, focused on removing wasted space, and we will introduce a brand new integrated hand tracking feature for all XR-4 series headsets (stay tuned for more information on that coming soon.)
It will also act as the first release where we introduce our new Varjo Base Pro license model. All users will continue to be able to download and use Varjo Base software for free without a license, but our more advanced features will be made exclusive to Pro license holders.

What will be included in Varjo Base Pro?
With the introduction of the Varjo Base Pro license, we’re making a clear distinction between our core features, which remain accessible to all users, and our advanced feature set, designed for organizations and professionals who need the most powerful tools for mixed reality and research applications.
Varjo Base Pro includes:
•Advanced VR and MR features, such as chroma key, advanced masking tools, and programmatic control over camera settings.
•Eye tracking for research and analytics, offering deeper insights with features like gaze data API and eye camera datastreams.
•Custom tracking solutions, including third-party tracking plugin support and motion platform compatibility.
•Future software innovations, with access to a roadmap of new capabilities and ongoing enhancements to tracking, passthrough, and AI-assisted features.
Thanks to the new license we can ensure that those who rely on these advanced tools receive dedicated support and continuous improvements, while still delivering high-performance and more stable VR and XR capabilities to all Varjo users through our standard free license.

Ensuring Long-Term Compatibility & Stability
One of our key priorities is ensuring stability and compatibility for enterprise-scale deployments. As Varjo headsets become more deeply integrated into fleet operations and training environments, we are investing in features that support scaled deployments, software reliability, and security certifications.
Varjo Base Pro subscribers will benefit from these ongoing updates and new advanced features, ensuring that their systems remain at the cutting edge without disruption. Regular users who do not need access to the advanced features set will also continue to benefit from frequent updates highly focused on stability, just with a reduced access to new and advanced software-enabled features.
What This Means for Existing Customers
For our current customers, we want to make this transition as seamless as possible. Any headsets purchased before March 25, 2025, including the ones you have already purchased, will retain full access to the entire existing features at no extra cost—forever—a commitment to our early adopters who have helped shape our platform.
Going forward, the Pro license will be available on a per-headset basis at €/$2,500 per year or €/$5,000 for a perpetual license. We are also offering discounts for academic institutions to support research and innovation.
If you would like to purchase a headset with the full current feature set available in Varjo Base, now is a great time.
