Gen 3 End of Support: Your Next Steps
After five years of continual updates, support for Varjo XR-3, VR-3, and Aero ended January 1, 2026. We’re here to help you move seamlessly into the future — whether by extending compatibility or upgrading to the XR-4 Series.
What this means for your device
As of January 1, 2026, the following changes apply to all Gen 3 devices (XR-3, VR-3, and Aero):

No further software updates — functional and security updates have ended

Compatibility not guaranteed — future Windows versions, NVIDIA drivers, and SteamVR updates may no longer work as expected

Support ended — customer and developer support for Gen 3 devices is no longer available

Hardware repairs unavailable — out-of-warranty hardware issues can no longer be serviced
Your headset will continue to work with your existing setup and any version of Varjo Base released before end of 2025. Varjo Base 4.15 and later will require an XR-4 Series device.

1. Upgrade to the XR-4 Series
We encourage all Gen 3 users to speak with us about current upgrade benefits available to help you transition seamlessly to our most advanced headsets yet, the newly redesigned XR-4 Series, delivering the best Varjo visual fidelity and performance to date.
2. Extended Compatibility Package
Purchase extended compatibility coverage until January 1, 2028, which includes:
- Ongoing compatibility with SteamVR, NVIDIA drivers, and current major Windows versions
- Critical security patches
- Support limited to these three areas of compatibility
Please note, this package does not include new Varjo Base features, general technical support, or updates beyond these areas.
