Varjo to produce all XR-4 Series headsets in Finland

Written by Varjo | October 29, 2026

Helsinki, Finland – October 29, 2026 – Varjo, a global leader in mission-ready virtual and mixed reality (VR/XR) technology, today announced that it will move the production of XR-4 Series headsets to its own manufacturing facility in Finland during 2027. Starting in January 2027, assembly of XR-4 Series headsets will take place in Varjo’s facility in Espoo, Finland.

The move builds on Varjo’s existing footprint in Finland, a NATO member state, where it currently produces the Varjo XR-4 Secure Edition headset for defense and security customers. Onshoring the production of XR-4 Series headsets gives Varjo better control over the manufacturing process and reduces the risk of supply chain disruptions for the company and its customers.

With its technology deployed across more than 120 defense programs in NATO and allied nations, security remains a high priority for Varjo. Varjo’s processes for developing, manufacturing, and supporting the XR-4 production are ISO 27001-certified. The XR-4 Secure Edition is also available as a fully offline version with no radio components, allowing deployment in air-gapped and classified environments. All headsets manufactured in Finland will be TAA-compliant.

Varjo’s headsets have been designed and engineered in Finland from day one. Moving the manufacturing of its XR-4 Series headsets to Finland further solidifies the company’s value chain, from research and product development through assembly to field support, allowing it to scale production as demand for XR technologies grows in Europe and NATO.

Timo Toikkanen, CEO of Varjo, said: “Demand for secure, European-made XR is growing fast, and working with our defense customers for the past decade has shown us what it takes to meet it. Producing XR-4 Series headsets in Finland lets us bring security benefits to our full customer base, while strengthening European technology sovereignty and leadership.”
