How do I upgrade to XR-3 and VR-3 from an older headset model?

 

My current desktop computer is compatible with XR-1 Developer Edition. Is it also compatible with XR-3 and VR-3? 

XR-3 and VR-3 are compatible with a broad range of Windows desktop 10 computers and have similar hardware requirements as XR-1 Developer Edition. Therefore, your computer is likely compatible with XR-3 and VR-3 as well.

My current desktop computer is compatible with VR-2 Pro, VR-2, or VR-1. Is it also compatible with XR-3 and VR-3?

While XR-3 and VR-3 are compatible with a broad range of Windows 10 desktop computers, they do have higher hardware requirements for the CPU and GPU than VR-2 Pro, VR-2, and VR-1. We recommend that you check your computer’s compatibility.

My current laptop computer is compatible with XR-1 Developer Edition, VR-2 Pro, VR-2 or VR-1. Is it also compatible with XR-3 and VR-3?

While XR-3 and VR-3 are compatible with a broad range of Windows 10 desktop computers, they are not compatible with laptop computers. We recommend using a desktop computer for better performance.

Do I need a Varjo Account to use XR-3 and VR-3?

You will need a Varjo Account to use XR-3 and VR-3. The account allows you to manage subscriptions and to download Varjo Base 3.0 with support for XR-3 and VR-3. 

Accounts are free and only require an email address and password. You can create an account in Varjo Account Portal in early 2021.   

Do I need a Varjo Subscription to use XR-3 and VR-3?

A valid Varjo Subscription is needed to use XR-3 and VR-3. Subscriptions will replace the Software & Support Service and Customer Success License attached to earlier Varjo headset models. 

Choose a suitable subscription for your headset: 

  • Varjo XR Subscription: compatible with both XR-3 and VR-3 
  • Varjo VR Subscription: compatible with VR-3

I am currently using Varjo Base 2.5 or an earlier version. Are these versions compatible with XR-3 and VR-3?

Varjo Base 3.0 is required to use XR-3 and VR-3. Version 3.0 will be available to download in early 2021. 

You will need a Varjo Account to download Varjo Base 3.0. Varjo Base will ask you to log in with your account and check for a valid Varjo Subscription when using XR-3 or VR-3.   

My application was created for XR-1 Developer Edition, VR-2 Pro, VR-2, or VR-1. Is it also compatible with XR-3 and VR-3?

XR-3 and VR-3 support most existing Varjo applications. However, performance and image resolution may not be optimized for the new and improved capabilities of XR-3 and VR-3.   

We recommend that you update your application to enjoy the full benefits of XR-3 and VR-3.   

I am currently using a SteamVR application with my Varjo headset. Is it also compatible with XR-3 and VR-3?

SteamVR (OpenVR) apps are compatible with XR-3 and VR-3 when using SteamVR™ Tracking.     

Can I connect XR-3 and VR-3 using the same Link Box as earlier Varjo headset models?

The Link Box supplied with XR-1 Developer Edition, VR-2 Pro, VR-2, or VR-1 cannot be used with XR-3 and VR-3.   

XR-3 and VR-3 are connected using two headset adapters provided in the sales box. Note that both headset cables should be connected to the headset adapters and not directly to your computer. See detailed instructions on how to connect your headset at varjo.com/start. 

Can I use the face cushions for earlier Varjo headset models with XR-3 and VR-3?

XR-3 and VR-3 use a dedicated face cushion designed for the best optical performance and comfort. Face cushions for older headset models will not fit XR-3 and VR-3.  

Additional face cushions for XR-3 and VR-3 can be purchased in Varjo Store.

Can I use SteamVR™ base stations, controllers, and trackers with XR-3 and VR-3?

SteamVR™ accessories are compatible with XR-3 and VR-3 when using SteamVR™ Tracking. Please note that these accessories cannot be used with XR-3 when using Varjo inside-out tracking.

Can I continue to use my current Varjo headset as before?

 

What changes are introduced with Varjo Base 3.0?

Varjo Base version 3.0 will fully support XR-3 and VR-3 as well as all earlier Varjo headset models. 

You will need a Varjo Account to update Varjo Base to version 3.0. Older versions of Varjo Base will continue to work as before. 

From version 3.0 onwards, Varjo Base will ask you to log into your account on startup. While this login can be skipped, you must log in to update Varjo Base. 

Do I need a Varjo Account to keep using my current Varjo headset?

A Varjo Account is required to update Varjo Base to version 3.0 and to access all other Varjo downloads, including Varjo Showcases. Accounts are free. 

All Varjo user guides, developer documentation, and related downloadables will remain accessible without an account.   

Do I need a Varjo Subscription to keep using my current Varjo headset?

A Varjo Subscription is needed to use the new headset models, XR-3 and VR-3. Subscriptions will replace the earlier Software & Support Service and Customer Success License for these new headset models. 

For earlier headset models, XR-1 Developer Edition, VR-2 Pro, VR-2, and VR-1, the existing Software & Support Service will remain in place and no subscription is required. 

Will I continue to receive software updates and support for my current Varjo headset?

Yes, we will continue to provide software updates for three years after sales end. Online technical support will be provided according to the valid service agreements (Customer Success License/Software & Support Service) and hardware support as described in the Limited Business Warranty.
